Idaho Code § 67-8801, provides that the medal may be given to any law enforcement officer, firefighter, or EMS provider who was killed or seriously injured or who distinguished himself or herself by exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of duty.
The Medal of Honor Commission has set forth rules and qualifications for awarding the Medal of Honor.
It is important to note that the agency nominating an individual for the Medal of Honor has the burden of setting forth the facts and stating the case as to why a particular peace officer, firefighter, or EMS provider merits the Medal of Honor.
