Office Samuel Lang
Nampa Police Department
On December 18, 2020, Nampa Police Department Patrol Officer Samuel Lang was assisting with a traffic stop in the parking lot of a Nampa business. The passenger was asked to exit the vehicle by the officer conducting the stop but was uncooperative. A verbal exchange took place and the officer tried to place the passenger into custody. During the attempt, the suspect removed a screwdriver from his pocket and stabbed the officer in the face. The other officers assisting struggled to gain control of the suspect. To prevent further injury to the officers and the public, Officer Lang drew his weapon and shot the suspect several times. Officer Lang then began performing life-saving medical treatment on the suspect. The suspect died at the scene.
Through indomitable courage, complete disregard for his own safety, and profound concern for the safety of others, Officer Samuel Lang showed great determination and bravery. Officer Lang’s extraordinary heroism and intrepidity, with danger to his own life above and beyond the call of duty, are in the highest traditions of the Nampa Police Department and Idaho law enforcement.
